AIPC just released its final report on the “Solarize Aquidneck” program, which kicked off in June 2015 and completed its initial sign-up phase last February. For the remainder of this year, three solar energy contractors (Newport Solar in Newport, RGS in Middletown, and Direct Energy Solar in Portsmouth) will be installing the solar panel systems contracted through the program. Solarize Aquidneck provided significant benefits for Aquidneck Island:

  • generating $4.3 million in economic activity;
  • producing nearly $450,000 in annual value for homeowners;
  • securing more than $1 million in federal tax credits;
  • creating an installed capacity of 1.14 solar megawatts resulting from 159 solar energy contracts sold to Aquidneck Island residents.
